I am Associate Professor of Language Processing at the University of Gothenburg. Today I am working as a researcher at the Language Bank, a research unit at the Department of Swedish.
My dissertation topic was language technology, which simply involves getting computers to understand human language. More in detail, I explored, along with researchers in computer science at Chalmers University, how to construct digital tools to efficiently create language resources. A language resource is a description of one or more human languages designed to be manageable by a computer, and that typically is designed to be a central component in several language technology applications.
After the defense, I, along with my colleagues at the Language Bank, focused on language technology for the written Swedish language, both ancient and modern Swedish. A regular application of this work has been to develop a so-called research infrastructure with Swedish texts primary data. Briefly, this application if that language technology help try to enable new, mainly humanities research.
My hope is that my research will help to develop language technology for the Swedish language, and more generally, it can help to enable and promote new research in the humanities who have Swedish texts as primary sources of data.
